Scholarship Award Competition Guidelines

There are no scholarships available for the 2008-2009 year

One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded in this year's scholarship competition in honor of the late W. Thomas Cook whose career in broadcasting and education spanned fifty years. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of both merit and need. Application and materials must be received in the NTA office by 5:00PM on March 31, 2007.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • A scholarship is available to any college student within the Heartland Chapter: Colorado - Nebraska - Oklahoma - Cheyenne, Wyoming - Wichita & Topeka, Kansas
  • The applicant must be enrolled in a 4-year institution.
  • The applicant must be a declared Broadcast Television major, or related Productions and Technical major.
  • Applicant's cumulative GPA and GPA in the major area of study must be 3.0 or higher. Official college transcripts must be submitted with the entry.
  • Applicant must supply two letters of recommendation: From a faculty member of the applicant's school, and from someone in either the community-at-large or in the broadcast community
  • Applicant must include all additional information requested.
  • Applicant is required to submit a Scholarship Application Form, essay and PSA script as outlined below.
  • Previous Heartland Scholarship recipients are not eligible.

Creative Requirements:

1. Career Aspirations Essay: On a separate sheet of paper, prepare a single-page essay that describes the kind of employment you hope to attain once you complete your college education, your career goal(s) and the steps you need to take to achieve the goal(s). Include the reasons why you deserve a scholarship.

2. PSA-Public Service Announcement: Submit a :30 script on the topic "Get Out The Vote!" using a TV/Video script format. Include on a separate piece of paper your proposal for the PSA, which covers your objectives, supporting rationale and target audience.
